‘Medium level’ behaviours which need a rigorous and more structured management style

Ofsted/HMI 2005 identified

  • Messing about and non-compliance
  • Escaping by withdrawal (opting out quietly)
  • Noise and nuisance value
  • On a scale of 1 to 10, these behaviours would be rated at Levels 4 to 6

A Commissioned Report by University of Birmingham/Ofsted (2005) identified the following behaviours, that are of increasing concerns to teachers

  • Verbal abuse
  • Temper tantrums
  • Invasion of personal space, intending to be threatening
  • Defying the teachers’ authority
  • Refusing to follow instructions
  • Persistent and severe levels of disruption could lead to pupils being excluded from school The Case Studies in Modules 6 and 7 will frame some of these behaviours in the context of a classroom
