Know your behaviour strategies
What Wave 2 strategies can I use?
The aims of this unit are:
- To move your behaviour management skills from a whole class focus to dealing with individual pupil behaviour.
- To introduce Wave 2 strategies that promote early intervention.
- To give you the appropriate skills to manage behaviour without having to send pupils out of your class.
You will need to go into your lessons with an air of confidence and give the impression that you know what you are doing. You need to be assertive and pro-active. Make sure that everything has been planned to the last detail.
Assume that approximately 10% of the pupils in your class will need more than the Wave 1 strategies, already covered. These children will soon make themselves noticed! They will require explicit training in how rules and routines work in your classroom.
Do not expect to see overnight results, but these Wave 2 strategies, introduced in Unit 4.3, will turn behaviour around, if you are consistent in applying them. Wave 2 strategies are also illustrated in sample Case Studies in Module 5.
