Organising your classroom
The aims of this unit are:
- To help to identify the key planning features that will help you create a purposeful learning environment.
- To highlight key tasks to complete before pupils enter your classroom.
- To help you maintain a positive, safe and secure classroom environment for pupils and adults alike.
The Elton Report on Discipline in Schools in 1989, identified that 80% of disruption was directly linked to poor classroom organisation, planning and teaching.
Module 2 is all about developing a classroom environment in which pupils can learn, grow and develop into mature and responsible young people. Systematic planning reduces the opportunity for behaviour problems to occur. Therefore, it will be important to look closely at some classroom management strategies we can adopt, to create a structured and purposeful learning environment. We all respond well to positive working conditions.
